Green Pantry

The ATU Letterkenny Green Pantry is a student and staff-led sustainability initiative that reduces food waste by redistributing surplus food from local supermarkets. The campaign needed to raise awareness, encourage students to avail of the service, and inspire participation in its community-focused, circular food economy model.

THE GOAL WAS TO TRANsfORM THE CAMPUS FOOD BANK INTO A STUDENT LED ACTIVIST MOVMENT THAT FIGHTS FOOD WASTE.

Creative Concept

“Fight Food Waste” was developed as a call to action — an energetic campaign transforming everyday sustainability into a social movement. Inspired by protest posters and activist design, the visuals feature strong typography, expressive hand imagery, and dynamic food photography. Each design symbolizes empowerment, turning simple food items like bananas and bread into icons of positive change. The visual language combines bold, high-contrast compositions with clear, impactful messaging, ensuring strong shelf and digital presence across campus and online.
The campaign was developed as a multi-platform awareness initiative, spanning print, digital, and environmental design. A striking series of posters and banners were placed in key campus locations to capture attention and spark curiosity. To complement the on-site presence, the visuals were adapted for social media, ensuring the Green Pantry’s message reached a broader audience in a consistent and engaging way.

Outcome

Additional promotional materials helped strengthen the campaign’s sense of identity and community involvement. A subtle layer of humor and visual wit runs through the campaign. Everyday food items like a banana and a breadstick are playfully reimagined — the banana hinting at both mischief and metaphor, while the breadstick takes on the form of a baton. This lighthearted tone makes the message more memorable and helps sustainability feel accessible rather than preachy. Overall, the campaign balances bold design, approachability, and humor, transforming environmental awareness into a creative movement that invites everyone at ATU to get involved..
